How kickboxing classes work at our Billingshurst gym
Our Billingshurst kickboxing classes are structured around safe, progressive pad and partner work. Each session opens with a thorough warm-up and mobility drill, moves into technical instruction where the coach breaks down specific strikes, combinations and footwork, and finishes with controlled pad work or light sparring for those who want it. There is never any pressure to spar, and every drill is scaled to the people in the room, so newcomers build confidence without ever feeling out of their depth.
Adult classes run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and kids kickboxing for ages 8-14 runs on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. If you want to add grappling to your striking, our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in Billingshurst cover the clinch and ground game.
What are the benefits of kickboxing?
The benefits of kickboxing go well beyond learning to strike. Regular training delivers serious cardiovascular fitness, improved balance and footwork, a stronger core and lower body, and the kind of stress relief that comes from focused physical effort. A typical class burns between 600 and 800 calories an hour, while the interval format builds lean muscle and keeps your metabolism elevated afterwards.
Many of our members started with no martial arts background at all — they simply wanted a more engaging alternative to the gym, a way to learn something real, and a community without egos. Because every round demands focus and timing, kickboxing keeps the mind fully engaged as well as the body. Will I have to spar?
No. Sparring is entirely optional. The vast majority of our members train for fitness, confidence and enjoyment and never spar competitively. For those who do want to test themselves, sparring is introduced gradually, with protective equipment and close coaching supervision at every stage.
